"We have had some recent successes on the economic development front, but we must continue working with local government and private citizens to ensure that our momentum is carried forward - not only in Sumter County, but also for our friends and neighbors in Lee, Kershaw, and Richland. We've got a lot of people to put back to work in District 35 as we continue to recover from a broad-ranging recession."
Quality of Education
"We must improve the quality of education by looking at outcomes rather than speculation. We must find ways to ensure that every child is put in a position that will maximize his or her ability to succeed. Our children must be well-equipped with the tools and knowledge to become successul leaders of the future. To do this, we must come together as a community of parents, educators, and supporters who all have a vested interest in our future generations."
"I am paying close attention to the concerns of business owners in our community that property taxes have been an impediment to survival and growth during economic downturn. Comprehensive tax reform should make our system of paying for government fair to everyone. Taxes are our monetary investment towards our society. We must ensure that our tax revenue is being spent responsibly and in a way that we can account for. I will be a committed and responsible steward of public funds, just as I have been in my personal and professional life."
